Boruta, Moskalova and Chkhitunidze double up in Poreč as World Series stop two concludes

The Beach Wrestling World Series returned to Croatia this weekend for the second event of the 2026 season, which took place at Plava Laguna in Poreč.

Athletes from 13 countries competed over two days on the Adriatic coast, with the host nation, Croatia, represented by seven wrestlers. Ukraine had the largest delegation and was once again among the most successful nations, as spectators flocked to the beach to watch some of the world's top beach wrestlers battle for valuable World Series ranking points.

Several standout performances were seen in the women's competitions.

Ana Maria Rotaru of Romania claimed gold in the 50 kg category after an impressive campaign that saw her secure victories over Claudia Cabrera, Andela Vasiljevic and Diana Rysova. Ukraine's Viktoriia Slobodeniuk took silver, and Rysova took bronze.

In the 60 kg division, the final was an all-Ukrainian affair between Da Nang winner Oksana Moskalova and Sofiia Kushnir. Moskalova continued her outstanding start to the 2026 World Series season by winning a second consecutive gold medal, defeating Kushnir in the final. Kushnir claimed silver, while Celine Bakayoko of Côte d'Ivoire rounded off an impressive weekend with bronze.

Olena Nikitinska captured the 70 kg title after staging one of the weekend's most impressive comebacks. After losing on the opening day, the Ukrainian fought her way through the knockout rounds to defeat Serbia's Masa Perovic in the final. Fellow Ukrainian Halyna Oleksiivska secured bronze.

In the women's +70 kg category, three-time Beach Wrestling World Champion Eliana Bommarito demonstrated her skill throughout the tournament. The American remained undefeated on her way to winning the gold medal, finishing ahead of Daria Konstantynova of Ukraine and Greece’s Stefania Zacheila.

The men's divisions continued to feature some of the biggest names in the sport.

In the 70 kg category, Oleksii Boruta secured his second gold medal of the season. The Ukrainian topped the podium in Da Nang after defeating Georgia's Levan Kelekhsashvili in the final, maintaining his perfect start to the World Series campaign. Ukraine also won a bronze medal through Ivan Semenov.

There was another repeat winner in the 80 kg category, as Luka Chkhitunidze followed up his success in Da Nang with a second consecutive gold medal. The Georgian overcame Azerbaijan's Sahib Dadashov in the final, with Vusal Aliyev claiming bronze.

The 90 kg category produced one of the weekend's biggest surprises. Georgia's Iuza Tsertsvadze delivered an impressive performance, ultimately defeating Da Nang bronze medallist Oleksii Yakovchuk in the final. Yakovchuk took silver, and Evsem Shvelidze completed a strong showing for Georgia by winning bronze.

The heavyweight division provided a fitting finale, with two of the sport's leading names competing for the gold medal. In the +90kg category, Georgia's Mamuka Kordzaia defeated Vazha Daiauri, the winner from Da Nang, to claim the title, while Ukraine's Mykola Kuchmii secured bronze.

After the competition concluded, Olena Nikitinska was voted the winner of the Women's Top Technique award following her performances in the 70 kg category. Meanwhile, Turkey's Ömer Özyildirim received the Men's Top Technique award after impressing in the men's competition.

With two stops now complete, the 2026 Beach Wrestling World Series standings are beginning to take shape. The race for ranking points continues, with several athletes carrying significant momentum after another memorable weekend on the sands of Poreč. The next stop sees the Series head to Batumi, Georgia, on 20–21 June.
