What a day of Beach Wrestling in Casablanca, as Africa’s first-ever Beach Wrestling World Series event came to a thrilling close.

A passionate Moroccan crowd roared their athletes on, delivering some of the loudest reactions ever heard in the sandy circle, as new Kings and Queens of Casablanca were crowned.

With the group stages wrapped up, there were shocks as some familiar names failed to make it through. YASARLI (TUR), reigning champion KORDZAIA (GEO) and consistent performer YUSUBOV (AZE) all fell short, leaving the stage open for fresh champions to emerge.

The home crowd had their biggest celebration in the women’s 50kg, as Sabah KANEB (MAR) took gold with victory over Claudia Soledad CABRERA (ARG) in her final round robin match. The result sparked wild celebrations as Kaneb became Morocco’s champion on the sands. Alevtyna LIASHENKO (UKR) finished with silver and Cabrera claimed the bronze.

In the women’s 60kg, Anastasiya KRAVCHENKO (UKR) bounced back from a group stage defeat to finish her tournament on the top step of the podium, defeating compatriot Oksana MOSKALOVA (UKR) in the final. There were more great scenes in the bronze medal match as Côte d’Ivoire’s Nogona Celine Josee BAKAYOKO denied Ukraine a podium sweep by beating Sofiia KUSHNIR.

Morocco added another medal in the women’s 70kg as Saadia ET TAMMAR thrilled the home fans by reaching the gold medal match. She had to settle for silver after defeat to Dimitra ANDROUTSOU (GRE), who continued her strong start to the 2025 Series with gold. Olena NIKITINSKA (UKR), who lost to Et Tammar in the semi-final, recovered to secure bronze.

Reigning women’s +70kg champion Eliana BOMMARITO (USA) returned to gold medal form after back-to-back bronzes earlier in the Series. Determined to reclaim the top step, she stormed to a 3-0 win over Stefania ZACHEILA (GRE) in a final that lasted only 41 seconds. Iryna PASICHNYK (UKR), gold medallist in Poreč, took bronze this time around.

The men’s divisions belonged to Iran, who stormed to an incredible clean sweep of all four gold medals.

In the men’s 70kg, Aliakbar Mohammad Bagher ZAROUDI (IRI), gold medallist in Poreč, repeated his success by beating Ivan SEMENOV (UKR) in the final. Levan KELEKHSASHVILI (GEO) completed the podium with bronze.

Ali Mohammad GHOLAMI (IRI) then went one step better than his silver in Croatia by capturing gold in the men’s 80kg with victory over Christos CHRISTOFORIDIS (GRE). Azerbaijan’s Vusal ALIYEV bounced back from semi-final disappointment to claim bronze.

Iran’s third triumph came in the men’s 90kg, as Amirhossein Morteza Gholi KAVOUSI defeated Jabari IRONS (USA) in the gold medal match, having earlier beaten Dato PIRUZASHVILI (GEO) in the semi-final. Oleksii YAKOVCHUK (UKR) took bronze after Piruzashvili was unable to compete in the 3–4 bout through injury.

The clean sweep was completed in the men’s +90kg when Seyedamirreza Seyedahmad SAHRAEIMAHALI (IRI) overcame Iurii Nikolaevitch IVANOV to claim gold. Oleksandr VERESIUK (UKR) had to settle for bronze, defeating Kyle FERRITER (USA) in the 3–4 match after losing to Ivanov in the semi-final.
