The 2024 edition of the Beach Wrestling World Series reached its conclusion in Croatia on October 13, with the Kings and Queens of Beach Wrestling crowned World Champions. The event was a fitting finale to the competition, which saw the wrestling elite vying for the coveted titles.

In a setting of natural beauty at Plava Laguna in Poreč, Croatia, the sand superstars left everything in the sandy circles as they pushed themselves to the limit in search of glory.

Ana Maria PIRVU has demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the season, and the Romanian athlete was crowned the women's 50kg World Champion after victory for the 3rd leg in a row. She prevailed over her closest competitor throughout the year, Viktoriia SLOBODENIUK (UKR) in the season showdown, and also into Silver place for the season. Slobdeniuk’s teammate Alevtyna LIASHENKO takes home world bronze, just pipping Justine VIGOUROUX (FRA) to the third step on the podium after the French athlete lost out in the bronze medal match here in Croatia to Venezuelan Naiyeliz GUTIERREZ leaving her 100 points behind Liashenko in the overall rankings.

For the majority of the season, the women's 60kg category was dominated by Ukrainian wrestlers. However, the outcome has now been determined, with Anastasiya KRAVCHENKO claiming her first World Championship title. She secured the victory by defeating Sofiia BORDINSKYKH, the 2024 Silver medallist, in the event’s gold medal match. Despite leading the rankings prior to the final event, Sofiia KUSHNIR has been awarded only a world and event bronze in Croatia. Bordinskykh also took home the women’s top technique award for the event.

Oksana HERHEL (UKR) entered this event as the defending World Champion in the Women's 70kg category. Despite losing the final 0-3 to 2024 Silver medallist Astrid Montero (VEN), Herhel leaves the event as the back-to-back World Champion. She secured the gold medal with a narrow lead of 8,000 ranking points over Montero. Olena NIKITINSKA was awarded both the World Bronze and the event bronze following her victory over America’s Olivia PIZANO in the 3-4 match.

Eliana BOMMARITO (USA) made history for Team USA last season by becoming the first ever Beach Wrestling World Champion. “The Bomm” has once again demonstrated her exceptional prowess by becoming the back-to-back women's +70kg World Champion. Her final match would have been against her closest rival for the gold, Catalina AXENTE. However, the Romanian was unable to compete due to an injury sustained in her semi-final. As a result, Axente was awarded the bronze medal, having been placed second overall by only 2,000 points. Iryna PASICHNYK of Ukraine, who lost her own chance of an event medal when she was defeated in the 3-4 match by Aikaterini PITSIAVA of Greece, was placed fourth.

Oleksii BORUTA (UKR) was narrowly denied the men's 70kg World Championship in 2023 but commenced the 2024 edition with a strong performance. It initially appeared that the return of reigning champion Yunus COSKUN from Turkey would jeopardise Boruta's title aspirations, given that Coskun had secured gold in Romania and Greece. However, it proved to be the Ukrainian's year, with a gold in this event leading him to his first World Championship, having previously won two silvers. Coskun was awarded the silver medal, with Ivan SEMENOV (UKR) taking the bronze medals for the event and overall.

Vasile DIACON was so eager to become Moldova's inaugural Beach Wrestling World Champion that he left a German Bundesliga tournament late on Friday night and drove through the night to arrive in Poreč just before the event was scheduled to begin Saturday morning. This evening, he will return to his home country as the men's 80kg Beach Wrestling World Champion, having secured both the World Championship and the event title. In the final, he defeated Azerbaijan's Ramiz HASANOV 2-0. Hasanov had previously claimed an overall silver medal, but this is his first at 80kg. He previously took silver in the 2022 70kg division. Greece’s Christos CHRISTOFORIDIS may have lost out on the 3-4 match at the event to Ramaz ZOIDZE (GEO), but he'll go back to Greece with an overall bronze.

Ibrahim YUSUBOV (AZE), the current men's 90kg division back-to-back Beach Wrestling World Champion, entered this event with the objective of securing the points required to become a triple World Champion. He achieved this by finally overcoming Moldovan Traian CAPATINA, with whom he had previously been unsuccessful in the gold medal match in both France and Romania. Capatina has had a successful debut season and has been awarded the silver medal. He was joined on the podium by Ukrainian Oleksii Yakovchuk, who narrowly beat Mahmut Ozkaya (TUR) to both the event and overall bronze medals.

It had been anticipated that the men's +90kg would be decided in a direct competition between the current champion, Fatih YASARLI from Turkey, and Georgian legend, Mamuka KORDZAIA. However, the outcome of the competition was not as predictable as anticipated, with only one of the two athletes securing a podium finish. Kordzaia has secured at least a bronze medal in every edition of the Beach Wrestling World Series since its inception in 2019. He extended this streak by claiming the title of Beach Wrestling World Champion for the second time despite losing the event final in Porec to eventual overall silver medalist Daniel LIGETI (HUN). Team USA's Kyle FERRITER took the overall bronze medal by a narrow margin of 2020 points, with Yasarli poised to contend for a podium finish in 2025. The Turkish wrestler also claimed the Men's top technique award for this stop.
